You already earned the leave. The only question is whether 2027 spends it for you — one lonely Friday at a time — or whether you park those days next to the holidays your state already gave you.
India does not run on one calendar. Punjab’s January is not Kerala’s September. Bengal’s October is a different story entirely. Let’s check the vacation optimized clusters of holidays in India for 2027 bellow:
Punjab — Thursday, Friday, then a free Monday
Lohri lands on Thursday, 14 January. Maghi and Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s Parkash Utsav sit on Friday, 15 January. The weekend is already yours. Take Monday, 18 January and you walk away with five days off for one day of earned leave. Keep an eye on Maha Shivratri (Saturday, 6 March) and Shaheedi Diwas (Tuesday, 23 March) later — both are the kind of dates that become long weekends if you claim the day beside them.
West Bengal — Puja week, without burning the year
Saptami, Ashtami and Navami run Wednesday to Friday, 6–8 October. Take Monday, 4 October and Tuesday, 5 October and you get Monday through Sunday: seven days off, two leave days spent, and you still have Kali Puja on Thursday, 28 October waiting in the same month. If you only have one day left, take Tuesday the 5th and still get six.
Kerala — Onam already did half the work
First Onam is Saturday, 11 September. Thiruvonam is Sunday. Third Onam is Monday, 13 September. Take Friday, 10 September and you have four days. Add Tuesday, 14 September and it becomes five. Not a nine-day disappearing act — just a clean, honest stretch around the festival you were going home for anyway.
Assam — Bohag Bihu is a ready-made week
Rongali Bihu starts Wednesday, 14 April and runs through Friday the 16th. Book Monday, 12 April and Tuesday, 13 April and the whole week is yours: seven days, two leave days. Kati Bihu on Monday, 18 October is a three-day weekend with zero extra effort. December still has Lachit Divas and Asom Divas if you want a quieter close to the year.
Tamil Nadu — Pongal is already a long weekend
Pongal is Friday, 15 January. Thiruvalluvar Day is Saturday. Uzhavar Thirunal is Sunday. Take Monday, 18 January and you get four days for one. That is the whole trick. Do it in January and you have already used the calendar instead of fighting it.
Goa — December, in three small bites
Friday, 3 December is the Feast of St. Francis Xavier — a three-day weekend you do not have to invent. Goa Liberation Day is Sunday, 19 December: take Monday the 20th and you have another three. Christmas is Saturday the 25th. Stack those around a couple of earned-leave days and December stops feeling like a month you survive and starts feeling like one you designed.
| If you work in | Sit your leave next to | Leave days | Days off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Punjab | 14–15 January | 1 | 5 |
| West Bengal | 6–8 October | 2 | 7 |
| Assam | 14–16 April | 2 | 7 |
| Kerala | 11–13 September | 1–2 | 4–5 |
| Tamil Nadu | 15–17 January | 1 | 4 |
| Goa | 3, 19 and 25 December | 2–3 | a very long December |
The pattern is the same in every state: do not sprinkle leave across random Fridays. Find the cluster your gazette already printed, spend the cheapest day beside it, and stay away from work.
